Belgium’s three biggest supermarket chains have reduced the sugar and fat content in 3,300 products.
Colruyt, Delhaize and Carrefour informed they were able to remove 363 tonnes of sugar, 170 tonnes of fat and 82 tonnes of salt from their own-brand foods.
In June 2016, the Belgian food industry federation Fevia agreed a target with the federal health ministry to bring down the calorie content in their in-house products by 5% by the end of 2017, compared with 2012 levels.
